12/08 - Lakeside Lumber is an FSC Supplier
“The mark of responsible forestry”
On July 7, 2008, Lakeside Lumber Company became FSC (aka "Forest Stewardship Council") "Chain-of Custody" certified under the Scientific Certification Systems Forest Conservation Program. FSC certified forests have been independently assessed to ensure that they meet rigorous environmental, social and economic criteria for forest management. The FSC enjoys the support of major environmental groups, including the World Wildlife Fund, Natural Resources Defense Council and National Wildlife Federation.
FSC principles and criteria for forest stewardship include:
As a certified chain of custody supplier of FSC, Lakeside Lumber is entitled to sell siding and decking products that are sourced from FSC certified forests, processed though FSC approved manufactures and distributors and represent them as such to its customers. FSC chain of custody certification provides information about where the wood or other forest-based material used in a product comes from, or does not come from. It requires the identification of the the origin of raw materials used in FSC-certified products, to keep FSC-certified products separate from other products throughout the production process, and to allow their tracking from one operation to the next - from the forest to the consumer, including all successive stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution. Only operations covered by an FSC Chain of Custody Certificate are allowed to label products with the FSC trademarks.
The FSC label thus provides the link between responsible production and consumption and thereby enables the consumer to make socially and environmentally responsible purchasing decisions.
